036 – Kidja Banna

Marley Fisher

Acrylic Paint on board
187 x 82.5 cm

This work was inspired by my growing up in the rainforest with my granddad. It’s called Kidja Banna, kidja means moon, banna means water. It started off mostly black with white dots then I ran out of paint to finish off what was going to be a dot painting the deadline was up – I had to improvise. Walking by some professional artist I decided to check in the bin for paint and lo and behold I found a thrown out roller tray. I used it mixed with other pigments to create this which is called, in my language, Moon Water. And the colours were inspired by the city’s many shades of grey.
