This reminds me of a dear memory of my grandfather and our time at Caterpillar Waterfalls. There is a story, of just how there is the metamorphosis of a beetle into a witchetty grub, so is the metamorphosis of a boy into a man. The black spiral represents the deep waterhole my grandfather took me to. There is a mythical creature called Yirru – it comes out of the waterhole and makes a loud noise like thunder, which begins the monsoon season. Yirru lies dormant with its mouth open, and things on the side of the waterhole get washed into its mouth. This is very dear to me and I want to pass the story down but don’t have the words – so this picture helps me to express it.
